Can going outside the box work in US politics? I mean, even further than “the right” has gone. *cough* * gasp*
(If you are a disenfranchised Republican voter, don’t scroll away here.)
You all might laugh at this idea. So far, no one I have posited this notion to has laughed, though. We apparently have a Democratic presidential nominee. What can Kamala Harris do to try to secure this US election? We have a minority individual as candidate. Good. We have a woman as candidate. Even better.
We also have, far as I can tell from my view, a LOT of disaffected voters from both the Democratic and Republican parties, myself included, having never felt either side adequately represents the complicated, peace-and-beauty-seeking Libra that God made me. I talk to people who think Harris is too far left, (though I see her described as a moderate.) Please remember, though distasteful, that all the things we appreciate about her in this way are considered to be flaws by other well-meaning people. They will vote for her Republican opponent.
If her opponent is no choice for you, and you’re not sure ‘bout Vice President Harris, come with me, kindly, down a weird dark rabbit hole that takes on a oddly cheerful and growing illumination as you go deeper into it.
I, well I am not political. I’m poetic, metaphorical. I’m all vibe and feels and lack the ability to learn and spout back the definition of the word “strategy” on a test. And yet, I have one to propose. Yes, it came to me through vibe and feel and airy headspace, but it landed like a meteor fragment.
Liz Cheney should be Kamala Harris’ running mate.
Directly to the point: If two accomplished, smart people from fairly opposing points of view and ideology (not to mention co-desire to continue our democratic republic,) could team up and WORK TOGETHER, can you imagine what could be accomplished in The United States of America? Women. Together. Different and balancing, (ya know, like checks and balances? I remember that concept. Libra-esque.) No balance on the man-leadership, though. I am talking take no prisoners here.
This is so delightfully far outside the box that my heart sings as I envision it. Different parties. Two women. Dedicated to kicking ass.
This is a dream more than it is “any port in a storm” desperation speaking. Though, call it what it is.
I will say it, after taking a deep breath and while feeling a bit nauseous in even typing any of this (concurrently hoping my words both spawn a fury of constructive change and that no one reads them, leaving me secure in my rabbit hole,) the Democratic Party must win this election. Not only win, but they must restore sanity. Smart and dedicated women can do this.
We have people living and thinking here upon this soil who are wise enough to suck it up and make this work. I know we do. We need more heart leadership, less clever bullshit and business savvy. I love cleverness, when it’s a turn of phrase or saves a life by fantastic invention. I love business savvy! Sure, when it is moral and it’s focused on betterment. (You were warned about my dreamer nature, and yet you read on.)
Honest to goddess, I know this scenario could be wild. But folks, we have a spell to break with better, bigger, more beautiful and powerful spell.
You can tell all the why this is crazy and won’t work. I look forward to you calling me a nut job, uneducated (pre-correction: undereducated.) But I and everyone know this: we DO NOT need status quo. Business as usual is failing in American politics. So obviously.
We require shock and awe and a unity so dedicated it burns through the dross.
Let’s make America great again by going back to and holding for dear life to the true foundations of our nation’s intent while embracing the fundamental changes for good that visionaries before us here have inspired. I advocate and even beg here for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness within the glorious, gentle shade of what has been accomplished through passion, dedication, faith, hope, love and sacrifice. We abolished slavery, we have empowered women, (gaining wobbly and tenuous but nevertheless towering civil rights,) we have won wars, made medical and technological advancements on every front, and continue on a path to seemingly unending innovation (to try name a some of this growth.)
We live in all the potential. ALL OF IT. Please, believe. Believe.
Please, let’s kick fear to the curb and let it’s lovers chase it there, while we go crazy making a new tomorrow. Outside the box, outside ideology, outside hatred. “Us and them” thinking has gone from a slow-burning ember to a raging wildfire. As a nation, we poured and pounded exponential energy into blasting through that unholy behemoth of primal human fear; and there is yet more required of us. We have to be the firewall, the breakers. Get up off your couch, for love’s sake. There is no reason we can’t have a thriving stock market and a yeardecade century with no school shootings and be surrounded by people that are different tints and faiths than us, and be enriched by their love and ALSO and because of them and with them, be prosperous, safe and content. This is America the Beautiful. You just have to believe it.
Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. Believe it.
And do any crazy fricking thing, in love, to make it so.
As I type this, I see I’m not the only one thinking this way. Google away at it. I just did, and it’s not just me. The comet has landed all over America and it’s hot. It’s a groundswell. It came to me like a dream, and so I believe in every good dream.

This makes sense on so many levels. Obliterate the box that says she has to have a white male running mate. White men have had their chances. For centuries. Next?
